Clippers Finish 2nd at Sectionals
The Clippers hosted sectionals and finished 2nd Place!! They advance to Districts on May 16, 2019.
This is year 3 of Coach McCarty leading the CCA Boy's Golf Team, who is assisted by Coach Fox. Each year the boy's have shown improvement. Highlights so far in year 3 include CCA winning WAMAC dual meets vs. South Tama, Mount Vernon and Williamsburg. The Williamsburg victory was the first against Williamsburg in a number of years. Additionally the Clippers finished 3rd in the West Liberty Invitational with 11 teams competing. This was CCA's highest finish in the Coach McCarty tenure.
Individually the Clippers have had multiple golfers shoot their personal best this year. Leading the way is Brandon McCarty. Brandon finished 8th in Class 3A as a 10th grader last spring. He's currently ranked in the top 5 individually in Class 3A and has been meet medalist in 8 of the Clippers 10 contest. Ryan Navarra has improved tremendously in his 2nd season with the Clippers. This was highlighted in the West Liberty Invitational where Ryan shot a 79. This was nearly a 30 stroke improvement from the same event last year.
Personal best have also been scored this year by Kaden Gisleson, Ethan Fairholm, Isaac Quinn, Nolan Schwarting and newcomer, Cole Liebe. All continue to work hard as the Clippers have their eyes focused on Sectionals on May 8th. Sectionals will be held at the Amana Colonies Golf Club, which is the Clippers home course and should provide a home course advantage.
On the Junior Varsity side both Aaron Cullen and Kaden White have medaled in matches this year. Oakley Carpenter also continues to show promise and improvement. 9th grader Will Lewis has proved to be a dedicated player with a passion to get better, and that work is beginning to show. Jack Siemering, Mason Stanfield, Balyen Zimmerman, and Bryce Mougin all continue to learn the game and are showing a lot of improvement.
