Mr. Moody named Secondary Principal of the Year

CLEAR CREEK AMANA ADMINISTRATOR IS IOWA SECONDARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Mark Moody, Clear Creek Amana High School principal, has been named the 2019 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa.

“I am both humbled and honored to be chosen as the 2019 SAI Secondary Principal of the Year. I would like to attribute my selection to all the great, student-centered work our staff does on a daily basis. The ‘What's best for kids’ philosophy is one we try to live consistently. This would not be possible without the tremendous support and understanding of my family and coworkers. I firmly believe you are only as good as the people you are surrounded by, and I am lucky enough to be surrounded by committed educators every day,” Moody said.

SAI Executive Director Roark Horn expressed, “Mark has that rarest of leadership abilities: affecting positive change in ways that everyone can support. Watching Mark interact with students and staff, it is evident how much true joy he receives from others and gives to others. His ability to inspire and motivate ranks with the best I have seen in education.”

Moody has led the school since 2010 and was also previously its assistant principal. His education career began as an English teacher at Lincoln High School in Des Moines. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English education and a master’s in special education from St. Ambrose University. He received his administrative endorsement from Drake University.

His peers nominated him and a committee of Iowa secondary principals selected him as the recipient. He will be recognized at a governor’s awards ceremony in May and the association’s Annual Conference in July.
