• An Open Letter to the CCA Community for Homecoming 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians, and Students of,

Homecoming is a truly special time and event for all high school students, especially seniors, over the course of history. It is a week that brings us together and demonstrates our love and passion for CCA. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced, like all things, an adjustment in plans and preparations for homecoming 2020. The student council  has worked tirelessly to come up with some amazing alternative plans, to provide a safe and engaging homecoming for all involved.

This year, CCA homecoming week is September 28. Just as in years past, we will vote on the homecoming court the week of September 21. The announcement of the homecoming court will be done through a video/announcement that all students can view on Thursday, September 24. The following week, we will have our King and Queen voted on.

One way we are looking to engage our community is to live stream the coronation event on Wednesday night, September 30, starting at 7:00pm. Attendance would be limited to homecoming court attendants, immediate family, and necessary personnel and leadership council members.

As we have done in the past, we will still celebrate the spirit days. Our student council kids will be working on a video that will be shared with the administration of each building to share with teachers and students so you can be aware of the days of the week and participate.

One unique way we will be looking to engage everyone is through a short (less than 10 second clip) or picture of you in your homecoming tee. Tag us on Facebook or Twitter with #CCAHomecoming2020”. After homecoming we will work to  create a video montage of the week to send out to everyone to enjoy! Additionally, we are going to reach out to elementary, middle school, and high school and seek kids who want to trace, cut out, and label their name on their hand. Placing their hands together around a cut out football will symbolize the new tradition we created last year of the football run! We hope we can get as many kids as we can to participate.

The game is against Oskaloosa High School on Friday night, October 2, at 7:30pm. Using the guidelines of the Iowa Department of Education, Johnson County Department of health,  Iowa High School Athletic Association, and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has put in place protocols and mitigation procedures to support our students, staff, administration and community members during this time. Tickets will still be required for the homecoming game as well as our protocols laid out here (insert link to in person attendance protocols).

Due to the increased risks associated with parades and dances, we have elected to postpone those activities - in their traditional format - until the school deems it appropriate and safe for all involved. This does not mean it is canceled. At the earliest opportunity we will look to host other traditional homecoming events. This, while disappointing, allows us to use our creativity and flexibility to work while creating a safe atmosphere for all involved. We want this to be a memorable experience for everyone.

We in the student council and the school district are committed to hosting a quality opportunity for everyone involved. We are excited about the opportunity to safely host some activities, while maintaining guidelines for social distancing. When safe, our school and student council will work together to provide these opportunities for our kids and families again.

    Thank you
